Our Yoga Teacher Training School will return in 2027! School will be held on weekends in February through August- see details below!
For ten years, OG Yoga has delivered trauma-sensitive yoga programs guided by three best-practice principles: what research supports, how yoga is delivered, and who is served. With over 50 community partnerships, we have supported trauma survivors, including youth, senior citizens, military members/veterans and their families, disabled people, and those experiencing homelessness, abuse, addiction, and incarceration.
Offered by nonprofit OG Yoga, this 200-hour Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training School will take place on select weekends in 2027.
Our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training School (YTTS) is designed for aspiring yoga teachers, anyone interested in deepening their own yoga practice, and professionals working with at-risk populations, such as psychologists, first responders, educators, or other wellness practitioners. Upon completion and demonstration of competency, you will receive a certification to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance.

FAQs
What do you recommend for my own yoga practice before beginning a teacher training program? Are there any prerequisites for this training?
We recommend that participants have been practicing yoga, mindfulness, and/or meditation for at least 12 months before beginning teacher training.
I am seeking a well-rounded program. Are you able to share more about your curriculum?
OG Yoga's Overcoming Trauma through Yoga YTTS meets Yoga Alliance criteria, with a deep immersion in anatomy, asana, philosophy, and the specialty niche of Trauma and Yoga for Specialty Populations. The required reading for our Yoga Teacher Training School are: Donna Farhi's "Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit: A Return to Wholeness", David Emerson's "Overcoming Trauma through Yoga", and Lauren Padula Neroni’s "Critical Anatomy for the Modern Day Yogi" and accompanying workbook.
Can graduates register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT)?
Yes, that is correct, though registration with Yoga Alliance is not required.
Who is OG Yoga?
OG Yoga is a non-profit project operating an altruistic yoga studio in Normal Heights. We send Yoga Alliance-certified instructors with at least 200 hours of teaching experience out to need-based communities, for youth, seniors, military (active duty, veterans, and their families), and adults facing homelessness, poverty, abuse, addiction, incarceration, and re-entry. We make yoga and mindfulness equally accessible to all. OG Yoga has served over 10,000 individuals from 5 to 85 years young through 50 community partnerships and correctional facilities. We have graduated over 150 yoga teachers since 2018.
You can read more about our mission and vision here.
Are there opportunities to work with the organizations partnered with OG Yoga as part of the training?
Yes, graduates of our YTTS are eligible to apply to be an OG Yoga intern to gain experience and work with our Community Partnerships, Studio Classes, and Hosted Events.
