OG YOGA INSTRUCTORS > SOFÍA PUERTA WEBBER

Sofía Puerta Webber

Yoga is the best medicines to me, it really saved my life! I discovered yoga philosophy and meditation through books and a variety of great teachers. My curiosity took me to live in a Zen Buddhist Temple and at the Sivananda Yoga Farm. I became Yoga teacher. Later, I found the wonders of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and studied at UCSD and became an instructor. I have a degree in Communication Science and Journalism from Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia. For more than 15 years I have had the honor to teach people from all ages, belief systems and conditions. I especialize in elderly, parents and children and cancer patients and people with chronic pain. I enjoy to teach latino communities and immigrants. I write articles and columns for magazines and newspapers about yoga, well-being, mindfulness and health, and I like producing videos. Wanting to protect the Amazon Rainforest I created Shiwido™ the toy with exercise in mind. It combines yoga, dance and story telling.

Words I live by…

Let's connect our thoughts, words, intentions and actions to our power of loving-kindness and compassion, to our selves and to all. "Health is Wealth. Peace of mind is happiness. Yoga shows the way"- Swami Sivananda.

What inspires me…

My family, my students, Indigenous commmunities, the Amazon Rainforest, The Ocean, the birds, the wind and the possibility that we all have to live in peace and harmony.

Outside of the studio, you can find me…

Paragliding, swimming in the ocean, hiking, running, roller blading, reading, writing and gardening. Dancing with Shiwido and teaching about the Amazon with the legend of Shiwido “if children don’t go to the Amazon, the Amazon goes to the children.”
