OG YOGA INSTRUCTORS > HELEN HYUN-CHUNG KIM

Helen Hyun-Chung Kim

In my previous professional life, I was a board certified psychiatrist in Korea for 15 years. I worked for underserved communities in a general hospital. During this time I witnessed suffering in the lives of my patients as well as myself. I felt a strong pull towards the field of mindfulness and self-compassion as a way to heal and alleviate suffering in the mind and body.

I strived to "become" a Mindfulness Instructor but realized that I needed to begin a journey of self-discovery and healing before anything. During this journey I was fortunate enough to be guided to attend the Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training at OG Yoga. I have witnessed over and over again, my growth and transformation as a human being. Through yoga I have discovered a rich, grounding foundation for my life, filled with awareness, acceptance, ease, and compassion. I am committed to sharing my knowledge and experience with others who may be on their own journey of self-discovery and healing.

Words I live by…

Breathe and stay open.

What inspires me…

Learning, traveling, meeting new people, self study, and food!

Outside of the studio…

I am a mom to a teenage boy so I try to be where he is. I also work and teach at UCSD Center for Mindfulness. I love to walk in nature and chat with friends at the beach.
